Common Questions
FAQ
Have questions? Here are answers to the ones I hear most often. Don't see yours? Feel free to reach out.
What should I expect in a first session?
The first session is all about getting to know you. We'll talk about what brought you to counselling, your goals, and what you hope to get out of our work together. It's a relaxed, judgment-free conversation — think of it as a chance for us to see if we're a good fit.
How long are sessions?
Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes. Family sessions may run 60–75 minutes depending on the needs of the family. We'll discuss what works best for you.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes! I offer both virtual and in-person sessions to accommodate your schedule and comfort level. Virtual sessions are conducted through a secure, confidential video platform.
How much do sessions cost?
Session fees vary depending on the type of counselling. Please contact me for current rates. I'm committed to making counselling accessible and can discuss options to support you.
Is counselling covered by insurance?
Many extended health benefit plans cover sessions with a Registered Social Worker (RSW). I recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage. I can provide receipts for you to submit.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies for everyone. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our plan as needed.
Is everything I share confidential?
Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our work together. Everything shared in session stays between us, with very limited exceptions required by law (such as risk of harm to self or others, or child protection concerns). I'll explain these fully in our first session.
Do you work with children and teens?
Yes, I have extensive experience working with children, youth, and their families. I use age-appropriate approaches and involve parents/caregivers as needed to support the best outcomes.
